IT Band Syndrome

IT band syndrome is a lateral knee injury in which the IT band becomes inflamed, irritated, or tight. It can be caused by overuse and repetitive flexion and extension of the knee and poor walking and running mechanics. Pain occurs when the tightness of the band causes friction on the outside of the knee. IT Band syndrome often can occur alongside runners knee, jumpers knee, and patella-femoral pain syndrome.

Properly treating IT band syndrome is important to reduce your pain, improve your quality of life, and ensure that your knee will achieve full range of motion once again. If left untreated, the pain can become severe enough that you will have pain and inflammation with every step whilst walking.

Our team will aide in your IT Band syndrome using manual muscle techniques such as active release therapy, myofascial release massage therapy and inflammation control with acupuncture. This will allow the muscles of the leg and hip to relax, allowing the IT band to move freely.
