Sciatica / Numbness and Tingling

The sciatic nerve is a large nerve that runs from your lower back via your buttock down the back of each of your legs. Sciatica occurs when an injury puts pressure on the sciatic nerve and results in moderate to severe pain in the lower back, hips, buttocks, or leg. The pain can appear suddenly, lasting for days or even weeks and is characteristic with a numbness and tingling feeling in the foot, calf, and back of the leg.

Sciatica often results in chronic pain, an inability to sleep, an inability to sit comfortably, a loss of range of motion in the affected leg, an inability to drive or get upstairs, or restriction from other every day movements. At its worst, sciatica may be caused by a herniated disc or spinal stenosis, however often it is due to muscular imbalances or piriformis syndrome.

Sciatic can be long lasting if not cared for appropriately. Our care team of chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists at Kinetic Living can assist with relieving the pain and discomfort, and restoring range of motion relieving pressure off the sciatic nerve.
