Scoliosis

Scoliosis is defined by excessive curvature of the spine. It most often occurs during the growth spurt right before puberty. Scoliosis can be caused by serious conditions such as muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy, but the cause of most scoliosis cases is considered idiopathic or unknown. Roughly 3% of adolescents will develop scoliosis before puberty.

Scoliosis varies in severity but usually gets more severe as the child grows into adulthood. Severe cases may experience a reduced amount of space in the chest which leads to worsened lung functioning and

difficulty breathing. The spine may also twist and cause physical deformities, back problems, and heart damage.

Though scoliosis can only be corrected via surgery, our team of chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists at Kinetic Living can help prevent a worsening of the curvature in order to manage symptoms and improve your quality of life; reducing muscle tension, strain and pain.
